What is Keeping You From Reaching Your Full Potential?
Studies have consistently shown that mindset plays a crucial role in sports performance. Yet, while many athletes spend 20 or more hours each week training their bodies, they devote little—if any—time to training their minds. Any elite athlete will tell you that building confidence and overcoming performance anxiety doesn’t happen by chance—it takes intentional, consistent work.

Over the course of her career as a competitive swim coach, Amy Cory has not only trained top athletes in the water but has also helped countless swimmers elevate their performance through mental skills training. In 2023, she was named Age Group Coach of the Year by the Virginia Swimming LSC. The award was presented in part due to her emphasis on mental preparation, strong team culture, and outstanding athlete performance.
As Head Coach in the following years, Amy guided numerous senior-level athletes to achieve time standards for Futures, Junior Nationals, U.S. Open, and even Nationals. Her athletes consistently cite increased confidence and the ability to bounce back from setbacks as keys to their performance—skills honed under Amy’s guidance.
After stepping away from full-time coaching in 2025, many former athletes asked to continue working with her on the mental side of the sport. In response, Fluid Mental Performance was founded—built on the vision of helping swimmers across the country unlock their potential and perform at their best.

Why Did I Become a Mental Performance Coach?
Simply put--I enjoy helping people become the best versions of themselves, whether that be in the water or in life. Check out some of the notes from my athletes that prompted me to start this business.

"Words cannot truly express how much of a positive impact you have had not only on (our daughter's) swim, but on her character. Much of her drive, resilency, and discipline can be attitibuted to your coaching and leadership."
"I hated swimming and myself and you changed everything. You helped me gain my confidence and spark back and I will be forever grateful to you for that."
"You've believed in me when not a lot of people did. Even after my last long course season when I had full burnout, you brought me back and helped me learn to love swim again."
"You have helped me so much as a coach both in and out of the water. You not only helped me get faster in the pool, but you also taught me how to control my emotions, like stress on the pool deck, which I am very grateful for."
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work for other sports, or do you only work with swimmers? The training is applicable to all athletes. While the program started to help swimmers, I have had athletes from a variety of other sports inquire about mental skills training. The key areas evaluated in the mental skills assessment and covered in training are universal.
What ages of athletes do you work with? This program works best for athletes age 12 and older. Engaging in mental skills training at an early age is highly beneficial and will give the athlete an advantage over their competitors. We find it is easiest for the athletes to digest the information and skills training exercises at age 12 or older. Starting early helps build a strong foundation prior to entering high school and college, where self-confidence can often be challenged. Likewise, you are never too old to benefit from mental skills training. Post-college masters swimmers, professional athletes, and triathletes can benefit from the training as well.
Can I meet with my coach in person or are all sessions virtual? Coach Amy's office is located in Williamsburg, Virginia. In person appointments are welcome. Please just include a note when booking or email me at coachamy@fluidmentalperformance.com
Can I buy just one coaching session, or do I have to purchase a package? Your initial consultation is free. Because mental skills training takes practice, you will likely not see big gains with just one training session. The smallest package offered consists of 4 meetings, but in order to get the most out of training, it is recommended that clients commit to 12 sessions (The Flulid Formula package). Each session is followed up with additional resources and practical application (homework) to hone your skills and strengthen your mental game. 4 sessions will allow clients to tackle one area from their mental skills assessment. 12 sessions will allow clients to tackle 3 or more areas and experience the most significant gains in performance. Payment plans are available for both package options.
How often should I meet with my mental performance coach? It is recommended that you meet with your coach weekly to get the most out of your training. Just like in sport, regular and consistent sessions will enable you to stay accountable and put your skills into practice. If you need to miss a week, it is not a problem to reschedule with at least 24 hours notice.
